Hello everyone! I know it is hard right now with all of this stuff happening. I will be honest and say I have good days and hard days. My kiddos started school at home this week and it’s been a big learning experience. Lots of emotions, both good and bad. I have even more appreciation for teachers than ever. Our district is still working extremely hard to help the kids learn from home.
We hope to take everything one day at time. That’s our motto through all of this.
I have learned that even when so much can be stressful and can cause anxiety and worry, I can still find so much to be thankful for. I can be just as overwhelmed with the blessings as the hard stuff. I see things I took for granted. I see stuff that was easily hidden under the busyness of a day. Here is my list of what I’m thankful for…
School- Our school district and community have rallied to help the kids in any way they can. Meals, child care, school work, you name it. The teachers continue to work hard to provide a curriculum for us to use at home. I appreciate their patience as well! I have emailed them more than I care to admit with questions. The principal for their school has even been going on FB live each day making the same morning announcements he would do at school each day. We love still feeling connected that way. He also committed to not shaving his beard until we go back to school. That may be a long time!
Family- My husband usually travels each week but he has now been able to work from home. This has been such a blessing. We are able to do so much more together. Last night we enjoyed the sun being out for some baseball and flag football in the back yard. Sometimes what I am most excited about in the day is him getting off work so we can hang out with him. He is amazing at keeping the laughter going in our house!
Daily walks- Since the kids have been home, we have taken walks every day. This is something to look forward to, some excercise, and some fresh air. Our dog Ned loves it too
Food- Seeing a stocked up pantry and fridge just makes me extra thankful. Our community here has also been pretty respectful about not taking all of the food. Toilet paper? Well that doesn’t count. 🙂
Technology- I know this can be a not so good thing, like social media. That can be good and bad. But if it weren’t for technology and online access, we couldn’t do school as easily. We couldn’t continue to keep in touch with loved ones. My husband couldn’t do his work from home. We couldn’t order groceries online. It’s pretty amazing. Does anyone else think about how school would be for us when we were little if this was happening? I’m sure lots of stuff would be mailed!
Dogs- Ok don’t judge me. I consider my dogs pretty great stress relievers. Just some snuggles can ground me a bit.
Busy Kids- I am very thankful that I have kids that don’t get bored easily. They have so much they like to do. Playing outside, Legos, cars, Barbies, games, puzzles, drawing, etc. I’m thankful there are times where they can play on their own. Teaching our kids early to learn to play independently is important in my opinion. And yes, they do get their screen time. I won’t feel guilty for that. This is a weird time.
Faith- I am thankful that through all of this, God is controlling it. That doesn’t make it easy but it can give some peace. I just need to stay consistent in prayer and hope.
Knitting and crochet- duh! This is something I have to admit. When I heard all of this staying home stuff, I was excited that I had a bigger excuse to hunker down and work on some projects. Now, that hasn’t happen as much as I thought but I am going to try to do more. We need our hobbies and happy things to keep us sane. Our mental health is just as important friends.
I hope to write up a pattern for these dishcloths!
For you knitters and crocheters, my PDF patterns are 60% off in the shop right now.
Grace- This is big. We all need it. We all need to be handing this out often. This whole shift with how things are right now, it’s new, it’s scary, it’s an adjustment. We need to not be hard on ourselves. We need to have less guilt. We need to breath. Parents schooling your kids. You deserve grace as you take this on. Our kids deserve grace as they adjust to a new way to learn. Give grace to people with different feelings. Some of us are ok, some of us are not. Don’t judge. Give grace. Pray for people that you upset you. Forgive them. Move on. We don’t want added stress. Forgive others and yourself.
Medical workers- YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING! Thank you thank you.
Friends I hope you can stay healthy and safe. Take care of your loved ones and yourself as best you can. Wash your hands. Thanks for reading 🙂
