Today has been full of pattern writing and editing. Not my favorite thing to do but I can now say, it is a lot easier because of a certain maker genius in NYC. Read on to see what I mean…
I have learned in the maker world that 1. Always support fellow makers and 2. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice or use tools out there to help guide you.
Which brings me to an awesome and creative maker, Teresa at DeBrosse NYC. Her work is so inspiring! She has given me some great advice and tips about the biz and other things.
(Read to the end for a coupon code for her shop)
Here’s what makes her stand out to me…
-15% of her proceeds support orphaned children in Haiti. LOVE
-She keeps her colors neutral, which not many people do
-Her patterns are easy to understand
-She broke out of the pattern writing trend and went above and beyond with DIY Kits and Maker Tools. She takes some of the work out of the process for makers to make their knits and to design and create their own patterns and brand. Genius!
-Her photography is stunning and clean
-She treats you like a friend and is always encouraging
-She’s extremely humble and sweet!
-Somewhat unrelated but her organization and small space living skills are amazing. We can all learn a thing or two. Check out her posts on Instagram to see what I mean.
I have purchased a couple patterns, a kit, and also a couple templates from her shop… Hmm am I coming on too strong? Maybe I could start a little fan club. I’m sure there are other DeBrosse fans out there. Anyway, I’m done with the nerdy talk.
The first template I purchased was the Set Template. It was a simple template to add photos together to make a set listing. I saw this and went, “Hey I should do that!” So I grabbed the template and now I have some Hat & Scarf and some Hat & Mitten sets available in my shop. Too cool
Today I just got one of her pattern templates. I was a little stubborn thinking I shouldn’t get one. I figured I could design my own. I also didn’t want to feel like I was copying others. Well with the way her designs work, they can be customized enough to make it your own. So now I am working on updating all of my patterns, using the new design. I can’t wait! It will also make writing up my new patterns way easier as well.
P.S. She just added some knitting needles and crochet hooks to her shop. I’ve got my eye on the Birch Wood Crochet Hook
So as you can tell, I’m a big fan. I highly recommend you go check out her shop. You won’t be disappointed!
She has also been kind enough to give a coupon code to all of you!

*This post is not sponsored. Just my personal opinions and appreciation for a fellow maker (wink).
Let us always support each other as makers instead of feeling jealousy or judgment. There is enough yarn and business in this world to go around. 🙂
What is your favorite thing in Teresa’s shop? What other makers inspire you?
